Your Custom Badge Reel Options

There are a number of ways you can customize a badge reel to make it work best for your business.

Custom logo or artwork
While standard badge reels are available, adding your company logo or other artwork to a badge reel is a great way to promote your company or brand.

There are two places that your logo or artwork can be placed on a custom badge reel: the center of the badge reel or the outer rim. Your design can be printed directly to the surface of the reel with something called pad printing (see the image at right). Or, your design can be printed to a label that is then attached to the badge reel. To protect the label, a clear dome can cover the printed label.

Badge reel clothing attachment options
You also have a few options for how to attach a badge reel to your clothing, including:

  • Belt clip – easy to slide on and off with no damage to clothing
  • Spring clip – attaches easily to coats, shirts, or pants (also referred to as an ‘alligator clip’)
  • Swivel spring clip –  allows the badge reel to turn when attached
  • Carabiner clip – easily clips to a belt loop in a secure, easy-to-use fashion (similar to the image above)
  • Lanyard attachment – attached to a neck lanyard for easy visibility and card use

Badge reel card attachment options
Finally, you have options for how the ID badge will attach to the badge reel, including:
  • Clear standard vinyl strap – snaps your ID badge to your custom reel
  • Clear durable vinyl strap – reinforced vinyl provides added strap durability
  • Swivel hook or split ring – a metal alternative to vinyl strap attachments

What are the Benefits of an Expiring Visitor Badge?

Visual Security

The expiration process is a simple visual indicator of what visitors should still be allowed in your building and who Custom Expiring Visitor Badge
should be asked to leave. Not even an expensive RFID card can provide the same level of visual accountability that an expiring badge can. Plus expiring badges are a fraction of the cost.

Brand Awareness

Another benefit to a time expiring badge is the ability to increase brand awareness of your company. Rather than a simple adhesive, pen written label, use a custom printed expiring badge to add your logo and create a more professional look. Providing a sharper looking badge can only increase confidence for prospective clients or business partners when deciding between you and a competitor. It is a great way to set an organization apart from the rest of the pack.

Visitor Tracking

Lastly, with any printable expiring badge, you have the ability to print and track a unique barcode on the badge. This is ideal if you want to track members of a conference, contractors within a building, or even temporary employees within your building.

As you can see, there are many applications where a time expiring badge can prove beneficial, If you have questions on what products are available and how they can help your company please contact one of our ID Professionals at (800)-321-4405 x2.

Protect Your ID Card with an Anti-Print Transfer Badge Holder

So you accidentally left your ID badge in your car for a few days to discover that the card is now “stuck” inside of the badge holder. When you pull the card out of the holder, you realize that part of your card image has transferred to the badge holder (similar to the cards found at the right).

This process is called dye migration. It occurs when a printed plastic card is worn in a badge holder that is exposed to heat and pressure. It is common in situations where employees work outside, leave their ID in vehicles, or store cards in a vinyl window of a wallet.

One way to prevent dye migration is by using a laminating card printer. Adding a layer of laminate to your cards not only prevents dye migration, it also makes cards more durable and scratch-resistant.

An alternative is an anti-print transfer badge holder. These badge holders feature an anti-print transfer material that won’t stick to or transfer print from your ID cards. Like all badge holders, anti-print transfer badge holders are available in both vertical and horizontal orientations for basic ID cards or proximity cards.

To protect your ID badges from dye migration, shop anti-print transfer badge holders now or talk with an ID Professional at (800) 321-4405.

How to Use an ID Badge Slot Punch

Slot punches offer a simple, cost-effective way to create an attachment point on your ID cards for use with badge accessories, such as a lanyard or badge clip. Before you use the slot punch, take note of these important steps:

1. Create your ID badge design, reserving the top portion (about 0.5″) of the horizontal or vertical design for the slot.

2. Print a single test card and punch a slot into the card.

3. If you are satisfied with the card design and position of the slot, print your batch of cards.

4. After the cards are printed, punch a slot in the cards. (Note: To prevent costly printhead damage, do not punch a card before sending the card through the printer.)

5. Attach your punched ID cards to your badge accessories and you’re set to go!

There are a number of styles and prices of slot punches available. Your choice primarily depends on the volume of cards you need to slot punch. To get started, view ID Wholesaler’s selection of card slot punches or call an ID Professional at (800) 321-4405!

Go Green with Earth-Friendly ID Badge Products

As Earth Day approaches, we’d like to remind you that there are a number of ways that your card printing program can “go green!”  From earth-friendly printers, supplies, cards, lanyards, badge holders, and badge clips, there are many options for health- and earth-conscious organizations.

ID Card Printers
A “green” ID card printing program begins with an energy-efficient ID card printer. Several ID card printer models offer unique features such as improved energy-efficiency, biodegradable supply cores, recyclable materials, and a power-down button to conserve energy when not in use. For example, the Fargo DTC4000 and  Datacard SD Series are ENERGY STAR® qualified.

ID Cards
Our bioPVC cards are made from 99% PVC that is fully biodegradable and leaves no damaging toxins behind. They maintain their integrity under normal, everyday use; they can get wet, be left on the shelf, left in a wallet, printed on, vacuum formed, cut, embossed, and UV treated without breaking down. Biodegradation takes place only when the cards are in a fertile environment in which microorganisms are present.

Lanyards
There are a number of lanyards made from 100% recycled plastic or bamboo. Our PET lanyards are made from 100% recycled plastic and bamboo lanyards are made from fast-growing bamboo, which is a sustainable resource, biodegradable, naturally bacteria-resistant, and very soft. They can even be customized with your logo or the text of your choice; after all, an earth friendly lanyard is one that you’ll be proud to put your name on!

Badge Holders
Available in landscape and portrait formats, our earth friendly badge holders are made from phthalates-free, DOP-free vinyl, which means they don’t contain environmental pollutants or contaminates.

Badge Clips
If you’ve printed your ID badges on earth friendly bioPVC cards, clip your card to your clothing with an earth friendly badge clip! Our earth-friendly clips include a strap that is made from phthalates-free, DOP-free PVC which prevents contamination to our environment.

Things To Consider When Choosing an ID Badge Accessory

Badge Accessories Assortment

There are many considerations when choosing a badge accessory. Of utmost importance is safety. If you are going to be displaying your ID cards in an industrial venue with machinery, a lanyard around your neck may not be the best option. However, safety improvements have been made in this area in the form of breakaway lanyards that pull off when snagged. An arm band badge holder may be best which displays your badge yet keeps the ID close to the body.

Your photo ID may be printed onto a proximity card for door access to your building. Many wearers in these types of situations opt to use the retractable badge reels due to their ease of pulling the ID card away from your person to scan the door reader. This avoids the need to remove the lanyard from your neck or unclip the ID card from your shirt to be able to reach the door reader.

Many educational systems choose lanyards. These are available in a wide array of colors and custom applications with school name and logo can add the personal touch. Lanyards are easily seen, durable, and available with numerous attachment options from pen to cell phone holders.

Lastly, vinyl badge clips are used very commonly to present a photo ID. Clips are a terrific option to use when you will be wearing your badge for visual identification and not removing it for door access via proximity. Clips can be attached to a shirt pocket and be easily seen on the wearer.

In conclusion, badge accessories are available in many different forms, shapes, and styles. Many pictures and descriptions are available at ID Wholesaler to help you find the right badge accessory solution for you. If any questions arise, call an ID Professional at (800) 321-4405.

Safety First: Consider a Breakaway Lanyard

Breakaway LanyardSo you want to wear your ID cards on a lanyard around your neck and you’re wondering which one to choose. There are tons of types, colors, materials, sizes, widths, and attachments available, but don’t forget one of the most important option: the breakaway.

What is a breakaway lanyard, you ask? A breakaway is a safety feature that is gaining popularity in schools, factories, and many other sectors. The breakaway is a safety feature on the back of the lanyard that will release the lanyard from the neck should it be pulled on.

Why is this a good idea? If a lanyard is pulled, it is better that the lanyard fall away rather than to choke the wearer or pull the wearer dangerously close to operating machinery. We have seen a lot of success with this safety option.

In addition to standard breakaway lanyards, ID Wholesaler also offers custom breakaway lanyards that can include your logo, company name, or any other design. To learn more about breakaway lanyards or for assistance in placing an order, give us a call at (800) 321-4405.
