Have Questions about Fargo DTC4500e ID Systems? We Have Answers!

Why Choose an HID Fargo DTC4500e System?

HID Fargo DTC4500e ID card system

The HID Fargo DTC4500e ID card system provides everything you need to quickly and easily get your card printing program up and running. While the Fargo DTC4500e can be purchased as a stand-alone piece of equipment, it does not come with all of the necessary supplies to begin making cards. It's very important, especially for first-time card printer users, to also get the supplies necessary for card production.

Our bundled systems contain supplies and equipment that seamlessly work together. Most systems include a printer, software, ribbon, camera, and cards. The laminating DTC4500e also includes laminate. Plus, each system can easily be customized to varying needs. For example, you can change the type of card, add printer features (such as encoding, lamination, etc.), upgrade to a more advanced ID camera or ID software, and add extended warranty and/or loaner coverage.

Not only can a system make your purchase decision easier, it is also easy on the pocketbook. Buying a bundled DTC4500e ID system costs less than if the items were purchased individually! ID systems are a convenient and economical way to establish a card printing program at your organization.

Should I Choose the Single-Sided or the Dual-Sided DTC4500e ID system?

HID Fargo DTC4500e ID card

It depends on how much information you need to put on your cards. For example, if you will only be placing the cardholder's photo and name on your cards, the single-sided DTC4500e system will be ideal for you. However, if you need to place more information on your cards, we recommend the dual-sided DTC4500e system so that you can print to both sides of the card in one, simple process.

Many customers ask if it is possible to print on both sides of the card with a single-sided DTC4500e by manually flipping the cards and sending them back through the printer. While technically it is possible, it's not recommended. Printing on both sides of the card with the single-sided DTC4500e will expose the printhead to additional dust, debris, and oil from your fingertips. Damage to a printhead from non-standard use will void warranty coverage, costing you more in the long run.

Fargo DTC4500e printers can be easily upgraded to dual-sided printing. Therefore, if you need dual-sided printing in the future, you can purchase the duplex printing module to upgrade your printer at any time.

If you will be creating ID cards with limited cardholder information, choose the single-sided Fargo DTC4500e ID system.

If you will be printing more information on your cards and want the ability to print on both sides of the card, choose the dual-sided Fargo DTC4500e ID system.

Why Would I Need to Laminate My Cards?

HID Fargo DTC4500e ID card sample

If you recall the old days of cutting and pasting an ID card together, lamination may confuse you a bit. You might wonder why you would need lamination when printing directly to plastic. In plastic card printing, lamination is a clear protective layer that is applied over the top of your printed cards by a printer with lamination capability. It offers three primary benefits to a plastic ID card:

  1. Lamination extends the life of your card by protecting it from wear, such as being swiped in a magnetic stripe reader.
  2. Lamination protects cards from fading and dye migration when exposed to the sun.
  3. Holographic lamination increases the security of cards by making them difficult to copy.

Choose a laminating DTC4500e ID system if your cards will be swiped in a mag stripe reader or will be worn in harsher environments, such as in the sun. Lamination will protect your cards from fading and extend their life - so you'll need to reprint cards less frequently, saving you time and money spent on supplies!

If my card needs change, what features can I add to the DTC4500e system in the future?

As your card printing needs change, Fargo DTC4500e systems can change with you. The following features are field-upgradeable:

  • Dual-sided printing: The DTC4500e duplex module increases the printable area of your cards, allowing you to print on both sides of your card in one process.
  • Same-side input/output hopper: The DTC4500e same-side input / output hopper helps fit the printer into tight workspaces.
  • Card encoding: A number of encoding options are available and can be added any time, including magnetic stripe, contact and contactless smart card, and prox card encoding.
  • Single- or dual-sided lamination: The DTC4500e single-sided lamination module or dual-sided lamination module can be added any time by ID Wholesaler's in-house tech support team. Lamination allows you to protect your cards from forgery, tampering and physical wear. Note: Dual-sided printing is required to have dual-sided lamination.
