Why Would I Need to Laminate My Plastic Cards?

Opt for the EDIsecure XID 8300 printer for laminating capabilities. If your cards will be swiped in a mag stripe reader or exposed to harsh environments like sunlight, choosing a laminating EDIsecure card printer is advisable. Lamination safeguards your cards from fading, prolonging their lifespan and reducing the frequency of card reprints, thereby saving you time and supply expenses.

What is a Retransfer Printer?

Experienced users of card printers are likely familiar with the white border often left around the edges of cards by direct-to-card printers. In contrast, retransfer printers, such as the EDIsecure XID 8300, create "over-the-edge" prints that cover the entire surface of cards. Direct-to-card printers apply ink directly onto the card surface, making any uneven surface or contact with the card's edge a potential cause of costly printhead damage. Retransfer printers employ a different method: they print the card image onto a clear retransfer film, which is then fused onto the card's surface. This process prevents direct contact between the printhead and the card, enabling printing across the entire card surface and on a wider range of card materials, including proximity cards, smart cards, pre-punched cards, and key tag cards. An additional advantage of retransfer printers is their ability to produce imagery with rich, vibrant, and saturated colors.
