ribbons are represented with varying combinations of the following letters:

Y = Yellow panel
M = Magenta panel
C = Cyan panel
K = Black resin panel
H = Heat seal panel
F = Fluorescing panel
I = Inhibitor panel

All of the color ribbons for the HDP5000 include Y, M, and C panels that are used to create a full spectrum of colors using varying degrees of heat. How do you know which other ribbon panels you need?

The YMC ribbon is ideal for printing full-color cards. A composite black is created by mixing YMC and will work for you if you’re not printing barcodes and if you don’t need crisp black text.
The YMCK ribbon is also ideal for printing full-color cards with the added benefit of a resin black panel (K panel). Resin black is required for those printing barcodes or needing crisp black text.

The following are variations of the YMCK ribbon:

The YMCKK ribbon contains two resin black panels (K panel), one for each side of the card.
The YMCKH ribbon contains a heat seal panel (H panel) that is designed to help HDP film adhere to cards with uneven surfaces, such as smart cards.
The YMCFK ribbon contains a fluorescing panel (F panel) that allows you to print grayscale text or images that are only visible with ultraviolet (UV) light; it’s an economical way to include an effective anti-counterfeit security feature that is difficult to forge.
The YMCKI ribbon contains an inhibitor panel (I panel) that prevents retransfer film from adhering to certain areas of the card, such as surface foils or a signature panel since the film would make it difficult to write on.
