Have Questions about Fargo DTC5500LMX Card Printers? We Have Answers!

Why choose an HID Fargo DTC5500LMX System?

HID Fargo DTC5500LMX ID card systems conveniently package Fargo's ruggedly powerful laminating printer with all the supplies you need to begin printing IDs. Alternatively, you can purchase the Fargo DTC5500LMX as a stand-alone piece of equipment, but then you'll need to outfit your printer with a printer ribbon, overlaminate, cards, and ID card software compatible with the model. It's very important, especially for first-time card printer users, to secure all of the start-up supplies necessary for card production. With the DTC5500LMX ID systems, the assembly is done for you.

Our pre-bundled Fargo DTC5500LMX systems include a printer, ID software, Fargo PolyGuard wasteless laminate, a printer ribbon, photo ID camera, and blank PVC cards. Before checkout, you can customize your system to meet your needs and specific program requirements (e.g., you can change the type of card stock, add printer features such as encoding, upgrade to a more advanced ID camera, and/or add extended warranty and/or loaner coverage to your purchase).

Buying a DTC5500LMX dual-sided ID system makes your purchase decision quicker (one-item checkout!) and easier, plus it's budget-friendly. Buying a bundled DTC5500LMX ID system costs less than purchasing a printer and all the system components individually. Unless you already have the supplies you need and are only shopping for a printer, ID systems are the most convenient and economical way to establish a card printing program at your organization.

What is Wasteless Lamination?

Most ID card laminators use laminate supply rolls that hold unused laminate patches on a carrier film, featuring a core that "winds up" residual carrier film after the laminate patches have been used. Featuring Fargo's own wasteless lamination, the Fargo DTC5500LMX eliminates the need to use both a carrier film and a pickup core. Instead, the DTC5500LMX uses a single core of perforated laminate, and the printer has internal sensors that detect when a new card is ready to be laminated. This process allows for a more efficient use all overlaminate while significantly helping to decrease the cost of consumables over time.

Why Would I need to Laminate my Cards?

Lamination is a protective layer that can be applied over the top of your printed credentials. It acts as a barrier, increases card durability, and decreases the likelihood of needing to re-print damaged ID badges - ultimately, saving you money.

Lamination helps protect your cards from wear caused by normal use, prevents cards from fading due to sun exposure, and increases the security of your cards by making them tamper-resistant and by introducing the option of holographic overlaminate.

A laminating ID card printer like the DTC5500LMX is recommended for organizations and facilities where cards are expected to be swiped in a mag stripe reader or barcode reader routinely, will be worn in extreme conditions (such as prolonged exposure to the sun), or if your cards require advanced visual security features.
What is the Benefit to a Two-Laminate Material Printer?

A two-laminate material printer such as the Fargo DTC5500LMX gives you the option to apply different laminates to the front and back of each printed card. For example, you may choose to apply holographic overlaminate to the front of your card and apply a half-patch overlaminate on the back to help protect it from normal wear (like a mag stripe being used in a reader).
