How to Prevent an ID Security Breach

I ran across an article the other day where security at the head office of a National Identification Card issuance facility had been breached. ID card printers and supplies had been stolen, seriously compromising the national ID program.

Nobody likes to have their stuff "walk off.” Here are some helpful tips to prevent unauthorized use:

1. Start with the basics: lock your card printers and ID supplies in a room with a door that you can lock or that has access control.

2. Go a step further: lock your supplies in a locking cabinet or a safe.

3. Lock your printer, if possible. Many printer models have configurations with locks. Some Fargo ID card printer models have locking or removable hoppers. Many Magicard ID card printers utilize a"HoloKote Key” to lock down and secure their printers, preventing unauthorized use.

4. Finally, and most importantly, lock your ID production software. All ID software carried by ID Wholesaler have a version that includes password protection. This not only prevents the production of unauthorized cards but also serves to secure the data of the cards printed from unauthorized access.
