How Do I Know Which Card Printer Ribbon to Use?

Some ID card printers users don't realize that their specific printer model may have more than one type of ribbon available. There are a variety of types of ribbons for card printers that offer special features or simply help you save money based on what you’re printing. ID Card Printer Ribbon SelectionMany ID card printers on the market today allow for dual-sided printing of a card. Manufacturers design ribbons for dual-sided printers to print color on the front of the card and black on the rear. These are YMCKOK ribbons. However, if you would prefer to print color on both sides of the card, then a single-sided, YMCKO ribbon should be selected and you can print both sides of your card in color. Keep in mind, when doing this you will use the ribbon twice as fast since both sides of the card are receiving color. Another example of a money-saving opportunity is a situation when you only want to print a single color on your cards. Rather than using a YMCKO ribbon, use a monochrome ribbon. As the name implies, a monochrome ribbon is a ribbon of a single color. Monochrome ribbons typically come in a variety of color options — blue, red, green, silver, gold and more — and they can keep your cost per printed card in the pennies range. Monochrome ribbons also come in handy when you’re simply printing a name or membership number onto pre-printed cards. Have questions on how to choose which ribbon is best for your printing project?
