While you can print from any Windows-based program, having actual ID card software will simplify your badging process significantly! One of my favorite programs currently available on our website is CardExchange. They've simplified the user interface, mirroring the Microsoft Office Suite which makes learning how to use the program a breeze. With multiple versions available, they offer a solution for every budget and every application. But which version is right for you?
While most programs can be upgraded later, it’s best to think of not only your current needs but any future functionality you might require.
A few things to consider:
- Do you need to connect to an outside database?
- How many people will need to access to your badging system?
- Will you need the ability to print a barcode or encode magnetic stripes/smart cards?
CardExchange Go - Basic, entry level badging. No technology cards are being used, and printing one card at a time is sufficient. You can save up to 200 records with no import or export functionality.
CardExchange Professional - For small- to mid-sized businesses that want to connect to an existing database. This version also allows you to print in batches of cards versus one card at a time. With the ability to connect to any ODBC-compliant database and add multiple stations, this is the most popular CardExchange version.
CardExchange Ultimate - The ultimate badging program! It includes all the features of the Go and Professional versions, with the ability to encode contact cards as well as contactless cards (i.e., MiFare, HID, EM, Prox, ISO). While smart cards aren’t utilized as much in the U.S., if you think you might be making the switch in the near future, this is the best fit for you.
In addition, CardExchange also offers a Small Business Server Package (available in Professional and Ultimate), allowing you to centrally manage multiple badging stations as well as add a network dispatcher for distributing print jobs. This solution is ideal when multiple printers are present and with multiple users sending print jobs.
