It's no surprise that security is one of the top priorities in virtually every organization, both large and small.

As an ID Professional, customers looking to make their ID cards more secure often ask me, “How can I create a more secure ID card for my company?” Their reasons for adding more security range from being concerned that cards could potentially be duplicated or counterfeited or wanting to incorporate an additional layer of security on their ID cards for authenticity.
One such customer who had purchased a brand new Fargo DTC4500e ID card printer from us reached out to me just a couple of months ago. She worked for a law enforcement agency, and a few of staff members had recently come across a number the ID cards that appeared to be fraudulently duplicated. There were certain discrepancies in the printing on these cards which lead to this conclusion.
She wanted to make their cards more secure but did not want a product that someone could duplicate easily. Her organization also did not want to spend another $3,000+ to accomplish this.
I asked if she had ever considered ultraviolet (UV) fluorescent printing, and she had not. I explained that this option is a low-cost and effective way to make the cards more secure.
Select printers – like the Fargo DTC4500e they had purchased – offered an option for a color ribbon that included an extra fluorescent ink panel. With UV ribbon, text or images could be printed in grayscale which would only visible with an ultraviolet light.
The organization's name or logo could be printed on the back of the card, and it would not be visible unless it was viewed under a black light. This would make is very simple to validate the card's authenticity and would also help prevent card forgery.
Needless to say, my customer was thrilled that there was a proactive solution to the problem but also that it was completely affordable and easy to implement!
