Tips to Keep Your Printer Running Smoothly

ID card printers are like most any investment. If you take good care of it, provide routine maintenance, and follow a regular cleaning regimen, you'll keep your printer running efficiently and effectively, no matter what the brand or model might be. Being proactive – rather than reactive – can save ID Card Printer Cleaning Kitsyou time and hassles in the long run. We've got some great tips to help you do just that. A cleaning kit can be your printer’s best friend Capitalize your cleaning efforts by purchasing a printer cleaning kit. Cleaning kits are a smart, easy, and affordable way to remove dirt or unwanted particles from the rubber rollers in the feed and print path; this helps preserve the “grab” of cards along the print path. Faithful cleaning at least once every ribbon change will keep the rollers and other internal parts free of unwanted debris. This allows your printer to continue creating cards, uninterrupted. Cellophane tape...who knew?! The ribbons used in a card printer are made of a thin film plastic that’s similar to the same plastic used in shrink wrap. Should your printer ribbon rip, tear, or break, the easiest (and fastest) solution to fix a broken ribbon is plain, ol' cellophane tape. One caveat: if this happens multiple times while you’re using the same ribbon, it may be indicative of an internal parts issue or a card design that has too much color saturation. As always, our experienced and knowledgeable technical support team can help you troubleshoot and find the right solution. The fine line…or lines, as the case may be Have you ever seen a white line or multiple white lines across the length of your ID card? If you answered "yes" to that question, there's a good chance it's your printhead. If the card printer is leaving lines on the card, you'll need to determine if the "lines" are actually color being laid down by the ribbons or “dead space” where no color is being applied to the card at all. If the lines are "dead space" lines, you may be looking at a dirty or damaged printhead. If the lines still persist after a thorough run of a cleaning cycle, you might want to consider replacing the printhead to ensure high-quality printing on your cards. To sum it all up, keeping your printer clean by running regular cleaning cycles goes a long way towards extending the useful life of your ID printer (think about it like a dentist visit or an oil change for your car).
