Combined Building & PC Access: HID on the Desktop
"HID on the Desktop" is a security access solution developed by HID Global that allows organizations to mitigate risk by strengthening the security of their computers and networks. The process requires that employees scan their ID cards to gain access to the company's Windows-equipped computers.
This access control solution includes the brand's naviGO software which improves upon existing Windows security access protocols. The software prompts employees to wave their HID Prox or iClass contactless cards in front of the OMNIKEY readers connected to the computer to verify that the cardholder has permission to use the computer.
Once the employee ID card has been authenticated, the software also provides a second layer of security by forcing employees to enter a password or a PIN in order to use the computer and gain access to intellectual property. With this technology, a single card operates as a dual-purpose credential.
Designed for both small- and large-sized corporations, HID on the Desktop offers simplified deployment and administration while doubling the value and use of a single identification card. The most convenient aspect of HID on the Desktop for companies that already use HID cards for physical access control is that they can use the existing employee ID cards to support this new security access solution. Re-deploying employee ID badges to support HID on the Desktop is not necessary since the solution relies on the existing access information already stored on the ID card.
