Protecting Technology Cards from Identity Theft

RFID-Shielding Sleeve for Cards

When it comes to protecting the personal information on your ID, credit, or debit cards
from identify theft, every measure you take to safeguard this data counts. Why? Because identity theft continues to be one of the top concerns that consumers have.

According to the Federal Trade Commission's 2014 Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book, 2014 marked the 15th consecutive year that identity theft topped the FTC's nation ranking of complaints from consumers.

A method identity thieves commonly use is called skimming." Skimming refers to the technique of illegally capturing an individual's personal information – like the data contained within the magnetic strip on an ID card or credit/debit card – using a small electronic device called a "skimmer." It scans the magnetic strip located on the card, storing this information for future fraudulent use.

One simple option to more effectively protect yourself is by using an RFID-shielding sleeve (RFID or "radio frequency ID" is a wireless technology for communication between devices). The data on ID cards and credit or debit cards that use RFID shielding technology cannot be skimmed by the protective barrier the sleeve provides and can conveniently be securely kept in a wallet or purse.  In addition, the shielded ID card sleeves are water and tear-resistant.

We also offer two ID card holders that are FIPS 201-compliant (Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201). Both card holders hold up to two technology cards and feature a layer of shielded material to protect the personal data from unauthorized access:
